There are people you help without expecting anything in return, just because you think they are great. You put your soul, time, and belief in them. You recommend them in public, and you send them clients.
Later in life, you meet them, and they say,
“I feel so bad. You’ve done so much for me, and I’m not doing anything. What can I do?”
And you say, "Just send me clients." And they do. A couple. You don’t close them, but you feel good that they did something.
Then these people start advertising that they are offering the same service, despite not being experts. You think it’s just a coincidence. You don’t believe it, but it’s okay.
It’s business. Nothing personal.
Another day, these people involve you in unexpected professional drama you’ve never faced before, by disclosing a very private conversation you’ve had in a past to third parties.
Then those people call you, saying they want to do something BIG. “I want to go BIG,” they say, and they want you to be there.
Great. Let’s do it. You keep trying to believe in this person.
And then this “I want to go big” ends up weighing on your shoulders. I'd say 85% of it.
After this “big” project, your name won’t even be mentioned. And that’s also okay.
All of us have patience to some extent. All of us have limits.
All of us have success stories. Some of us have dignity.
Some of us have ethics.
Fewer of us recognize people once we've built cash cows.
All of us fail. Not all of us have people who stand by us when we go through hard times.
Only a few of us stand by our values, look proudly in the mirror, and don’t want to spit there instead.
